Jessica’s clean up – 9th March 2019

A post went up on Sidmouth Plastic Warriors’ Facebook page by ‘Roger Lou’, as follows: “My 8 year old daughter is organising by herself a litter pick around the football and rugby pitches along the Sidford end of The Byes. If anyone would like to come and support it would be great. She has no Read more about Jessica’s clean up – 9th March 2019[…]

Beach Clean – Sidmouth 23rd February 2019

Thank you, you beauties! About 75 people collected 4 full non-recyclable bags and 1 each of glass, plastic and tins. The usual suspects were found: fishing wire, tampon applicators, fruit shoot lids and plastic shotgun casings plus loads of parcel wrappings (the stiff plastic type) and cable ties. And the interesting bottle in the photos Read more about Beach Clean – Sidmouth 23rd February 2019[…]

Beach Clean – Sidmouth Saturday January 5th 10.30am

(This is the write up I did for the Herald so if it’s a bit general that’s why) I headed down to the beach for this month’s beach clean, wrapped in many layers as it was freezing! I thought the weather would put people off but the warm welcome from the staff at the Marine, Read more about Beach Clean – Sidmouth Saturday January 5th 10.30am[…]

Beach Clean Sept 15th 2018

What a fantastic turnout for the Clean Up we jointly organised for us, Surfers Against Sewage, the Marine Conservation Society and World Clean Up Day! Around 75 people came along, and particularly great about that were the number of enthusiastic children who are totally engaged with the concept of ocean plastic – some of them Read more about Beach Clean Sept 15th 2018[…]

Surfers Against Sewage Plastic Free Sidmouth – we’ve done it!

WE’VE DONE IT! It is with a huge amount of pride in our group and town that we can announce that Sidmouth has gained the ‘Plastic Free Coastline’ accreditation from Surfers Against Sewage. We started this process back in February with our open public meeting, where we organised ourselves into a steering committee (one of Read more about Surfers Against Sewage Plastic Free Sidmouth – we’ve done it![…]

Folk Festival

One of our main focuses was to try to help Sidmouth Folk Festival become as plastic free as possible. Glastonbury have a very informative website about what could be achieved for festivals, [https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/green-glastonbury/refill-not-landfill/] and there are lots of ideas about what to do. What I’m learning is that some changes are impossible to be made Read more about Folk Festival[…]

My War on Cigarette Butts

With one of the driest Julys on record we have seen a problem in the town exposed to its full extent. Cigarette butts are everywhere. Clearly when it rains they normally get washed through the gutters, down the drains, and straight into the sea, but now they are just lying around waiting. I have been Read more about My War on Cigarette Butts[…]

Clean up #6 Long Park 24th June 2018

Despite blistering heat and England vs Panama on the TV, about 15 hard core Warriors turned out for our badly planned Long Park and Woolbrook clear up. Taking it slowly on one of the hottest days of the year, we worked our way round Long Park and spread out to the skate park, river and Read more about Clean up #6 Long Park 24th June 2018[…]

Clean Up #5 SAS Sidmouth Sea Fest May 12th 2018

I apologise for the lack of enthusiasm for this post – not posted the same day or near as usual – but I really wasn’t well on this day but dragged myself along as it had been a long standing plan to start Sea Fest 2018 with a beach clean. I had borrowed 52 children’s Read more about Clean Up #5 SAS Sidmouth Sea Fest May 12th 2018[…]

Clean Up #4 SAS Big Spring Clean Up April 14th 2018

A rare break in the rain in what has been a very wet Winter and Spring (so far) meant that we had a good chance of a clear 2 hours to really tackle the beach for this cleanup. Reports coming back to us from Warriors were that the beach was looking pretty clean, and at Read more about Clean Up #4 SAS Big Spring Clean Up April 14th 2018[…]
